The following is a folk tale of Rawa Pening, which is the origin of the formation of the Rawa Pening area. It is said that a woman named Endang gave birth to a large dragon named Baru Klinting. Baru Klinting is a dragon who can talk like a normal human.
Once upon a time, people were looking for a suitable animal to serve as a party meal. The community also wanted to make Baru Klinting a meal, in the midst of Baru Klinting's activities who were imprisoned, Baru Klinting turned into a little boy and found out about the people's progress. The little boy was hungry and asked for food, no one wanted to feed except an old grandmother.
The old grandmother was given a message to take a mortar when she heard a big roar. Not long, a rumbling sound was heard and water emerged from the ground and drowned all the people in the village who were partying. Except for the kind grandmother. From that point on, the area was named Rawa Pening.
