CRYING STONE
The Crying Stone from the South
Kalimantan area. It is said that once upon a time on a hill far from the
village on Earth, Kalimantan lived a poor old man and his daughter. The mother
who works daily looking for vegetables that will later be sold in the market.
All that was done to meet the needs of her and her daughter.
The child is very beautiful, but
unfortunately his behavior is very bad. He is very lazy and doesn't want to
help his mother at all. Her job every day is just to preen and beautify
herself. When the mother had just returned home, she was confronted by
complaints from her daughter.
"It's been a long time, Mom,
I'm hungry! look at the house there is no food," he said, grumbling.
"Sorry, son, I just came from
the market, but there are still a few side dishes on the table," he
explained. With a face filled with tiredness, he still forced himself to
arrange the small groceries.
I'm tired of eating those foods,
every day with only cassava leaves!”
Hearing his words, his mother was
very sad, did not want to eat the food because it was the only food he could
cook, because he did not can afford meat or
fish. The girl did not care at all about the condition of her mother who was
having trouble making money.
On a quiet night, the mother, who
was daydreaming about her financial condition, was surprised by her daughter
asking to buy new clothes.
"I want new clothes, tomorrow
you have to buy them for me."
The mother who felt sorry for her,
she also felt bad for her child, "Yes son tomorrow I will buy it for
you."
The next day they went together to
the market which was quite far from the hill where they lived, to give their
child's clothes.
"Mom, don't walk beside me, you
have to walk behind me, because I don't want to walk with you. I don't want to
look ugly in front of people who see me. Mother is dirty, I'm ashamed. Anyway,
mother is walking behind me period!”
The two of them finally walked away
from each other, the mother walking behind her child. Finally they both arrived
at the village. Many young men who see the beauty of the girl, many young men
who want to get acquainted with the girl. They started to ask the girl
"Miss, if I may ask, where are
you headed and where are you from?" asked the first young man.
"I'm looking for new
clothes."
“Is the old man walking behind you
your mother?” asked the next young man who met him.
"No! he is my babe,” he explained
innocently saying that.
His mother who heard it was very,
very sad to hear that, it didn't stop there, everyone who asked him about the
woman behind him, he continued to answer with hurtful words.
Until one day his mother felt very
sad and she said with tears in her eyes, "Oh my son, how dare you disobey
your mother who has loved and patiently cared for you, I don't know what wrath
you will receive from God."
Hearing what her mother said, the
girl cried and begged for mercy, but unfortunately it was too late. Gradually
his legs turned to stone, then the rest of his body reached his whole body.
Everyone who saw was shocked to see
the strange event. The stone was finally pushed aside by people and propped on
a cliff, until now the rock is still there and is called the weeping stone.
